War of Words... SPELL

Another crappy week at work has meant that I failed to get a fresh sketch finalised for the word, so I've submitted an older image I did a few months ago which (witch) fits the bill.. but it still feels like a gyp sorry!.. Mine's the nudie green girl on the bottom.
Dave's work in progress (at the top) is quite frankly AWESOME... and I really want to see the finished item, which (witch) when it's done, I'll post! New word (which/witch hopefully I'll be able to get a finished piece together for) is EMPTY.

War of Words.. BELIEF

Oh God... Sorry for the late posting.. It's been a total turd of a week! Neither Dave or myself got round to producing 'complete' work this week due to other work commitments. Mine is still at the sketch stage and is a character designed to symbolize several 'belief' systems.. see what I did there?

Dave's entry is altogether more clever.. and fun.. click on the close up and read on!

New word of the week... SPELL! in honor of Halloween!

Still alive...

... Only just though! Been super busy at work lately, so not had a lot of time to produce work.. done a few doodles (including the word of the week - which is still not finished!)

thought I'd post a couple of them to show ya'll that I'm not being lazy.

It's funny, because I've been getting really frustrated at this lack of creativity at the moment, but time is just sooooo tight right now!

Nosferatu

Here's a close up of a full sketch I did yesterday of the 'classic' looking Nosferatu. I wrestled with the idea of putting the smile on his chops for ages.. put it on, take it off, put it on, take it off... in the end I left it on.. It's probably better for it as it softens his character a little..

I like this image, the shapes are nice and simple, but still pretty strong!

The Dancing Dead..

Hmmm.. good name for a band that!

Anyways, Here's a little doodle to promote the newly released vinyl only EP from the splendid Ghastly Ones!

War of Words.. SUGAR

Amazing.. we both went for monsters.. and we both went for cereal based characters. My entry this week is based on an American Cereal Brand called 'Chockula'.. the werewolf character is for the 'Fruit Brute' arm of the brand.. I kinda cheated this week as I produced this image for the monstercereal blog and felt it lent itself to the word of the week too.. you could look at this image as a political statement on the effects that sugars in cereals have on the youth of today... if you really wanted too!

Dave has produced another nice piece based on the Honey monster. I remember being a little scared of him on the adverts when I was a kid.. The costume was pretty primitive back then as I remember... Still, Dave's take on the yellow peril is no less frightening... and he got a girl in there too!

something different?

Here's a mock poster I did at work for a ZONE ENTERPRISE WEEK at Glyndwyr University. It was a submission of ideas brief. I'm pretty pleased with it as it was done in a major rush. the idea being that each character represents a different activity going on throughout the week... Robot (Computing) Alan Sugar (Business) Pirate (erm.. sports).. it's for a 'Treasure Hunt' day.. and Pop Wannabe (Open Mic Talent Night).

Heard today that we didn't get the job.. Not that I'm bitter, but they probably went for something pretty lifeless.. Still.. I think there's some mileage in these characters and I liked the colours..

See.. I do real work too!

Who's afraid of the Big Bad Witch?

Here's a Dancing Witch to celebrate October and the brilliant display of leaves that are falling from the trees at the moment.

Peek-a-BOO!

Here's a quick Frankenstein I did in my lunchtime.. must send this over to the 'A Patchwork of Flesh' blog!

War of Words.. STARCHED

Really stoked about my entry this week.. as soon as I read the word 'Starched' I immediately thought of 'Shaun of the Dead' and his white work-shirt... (go figure?) Lucky for me I managed to get away with doing 1 doodle and hit it straight away (not to blow my own trumpet or anything!!  =)

Dave had a few ideas knocking about, and went with this comic wink at Marvel Comics 'Iron Man'.. smashing stuff!!

New word is SUGAR!

Oh.. on the subject of which.. I'd like to let you know that I will be in the forthcoming (Issue 9) of NEW SUGAR (www.newsugar.co.uk) with a portfolio section and a small interview.. This is my hat-trick in New Sugar (not counting the Covers Issue).. so YAY me!!

Monday 5 October 2009

aah.. isn't he cute!

Here's that Frankenstein pic coloured up.. I know he name's been done before, but it seemed to fit him pretty well.. He's so cute.. he'd make a great vinyl toy.. or maybe even a wind-up toy?.. Think of this as the box art!

work in progress..

Here's some work in progress sketches for a Ghastly Ones poster and a cartoon frankenstein monster.. just because I can!

War of Words.. BOTTOM

SURPRISE!!!!

Look... no naked ladies!! It was certainly tempting for me.. but I actually had a lot of ideas for this word (that didn't revolve around body parts)... perhaps I'm coming down with something!

I had another song doing the rounds in my brain this week, by KINGS OF THE SUN, an old early 90's Australian band and the lyrics "You're the top of the bottom of my heart" got stuck in rotation.. therefore I decided I wanted to try and visualize that in some way.. and the result is probably one of the cutest pics I've produced in a long, long time.. It really makes me smile.

Dave has been struggling with an idea and also with the fact that he's been suffering 'Illustrator's block' much like myself of late.. His entry is equally quirky.. but a lot more dangerous than chasing butterflies!!

New word is ... STARCHED...... Oh flippin' heck!

The nightmare begins... Halloween is coming!!
